On the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, club members serve food to the poor and homeless at Abraham’s Tent in Lake Charles.
Reading is Fundamental
Once per month, a club member will read to children at the Oasis Women’s Shelter in Lake Charles, donate a book, and give treats to children after the reading.
Bringing Up Grades (BUGS)
Club members give parties for students at our Partner in Education School, Henry Heights Elementary, who have brought up at least one grade from the previous nine week evaluation and have not allowed any previous grade to fall. At the end of the school year, a party is held and gifts are given to students.
Partners in Education
Henry Heights Elementary School
Our club engages in a variety of activities during the school year including literacy programs, art programs, Student of the Month recognition, holiday parties, and other enrichment activities. We work closely with the administration and faculty of Henry Heights to provide support and needed resources identified by the school that will best serve its students.
Lake Charles Boston Academy
Our club supports the teaching staff of the Calcasieu Parish School Board Virtual Instruction Program. The Virtual Instruction Program (VIP) offers live instruction to students on their school campuses, delivered by teachers from Lake Charles Boston Academy. Students are assigned to a VIP Lab on their campus for the live class sessions. Each day, students log in at the scheduled time to receive instruction from their VIP teachers. Synchronous teaching takes place every school day across all 11 high schools, led by LCBA educators.
During October and November of each year, our club collects coats be donated to 10 local charitable agencies. Donated coats are collected, taken to Runte Lake Cleaners where they are cleaned free of charge, and are then delivered to the 10 agencies.
Crawfish Boil Fundraiser
Every spring our club invites the community to a crawfish boil held at O.B.’s Bar & Grill. Live music, good food, and friendly chatter offer the perfect opportunity to share the Kiwanis mission with our peers.
Discount Card Fundraiser
Each fall our club sells discount cards with exclusive offers to 18 local eateries and merchandise shops. The cards are valid for a full calendar year and each offer can be used more than once.
